A progressive metal band Pressure Points, founded in 2004 in Heinola, Finland, returns. During its lenghty career the band has released two critically-acclaimed albums, Remorses to Remember (2010) and False Lights (2015). To support these releases, they have toured extensively in Finland and abroad. Although some years have passed, the desire to write music has prevailed. The latest single release carried a project name of “horror prog” and was eventually titled The Night Inside. The song and a new music video was published on 23rd of February through a Spanish label Art Gates Records. One of the founding members of the band, Vili Auvinen, characterizes the writing process as follows:
“The first demos of the song were made several years ago and the structure of the tune has changed many times. However the old sound of Pressure Points is recognizeable with some added flavors. We have gained a lot of expression power after the recruitement our new singer Juha Tretjakov. A few ex members of the band have also left their mark in the new tune: Saku Aaltonen, Mika Oinonen and Kimmo Korhonen. A big thanks to them for their contributions.”
The current lineup of Pressure Points consists of Auvinen (drums), Tretjakov (lead vocals), Kari Olli (guitars, grunts), Janne Parikka (basso) and Veli-Matti “Wellu” Kyllönen (keyboards). The Night Inside is composed by Kyllönen and Aaltonen. Lyrics are by Kyllönen.
”The tune has a horror movie vibe that required lyrics suitable for the theme. I chose “sleep paralysis” to be the baseline for the story. The song travels within many different emotions through the night with the narrator who is stuck in a unique, dark spiral.”, Kyllönen summarizes.
